Memory Keeping … new Digital Project Life and Dollar Days at Pixel & Co.

It’s July! Yay for summer! The kids finally got out of school last week and this is our first full week of summer vacation. We are taking it easy, and enjoying just chilling … with no schedule, no early morning wake-ups, and lots of down time. Life is good.

After a very hectic last few weeks, I am enjoying creating scrapbook pages again. I had not been on my computer much the last week or two and it feels great to open up Photoshop again.

If you are a Digital Project Lifer, then you have to check out the newly released Value Kits. Last week was the darling Enjoy Life Value Kit. This week it is the Good Times kit, on sale, of course. (psst: next week there will be a new Value kit too!) It is so versatile … with a black and white color scheme and chalkboard theme. I used it on this page, mixed with bits and pieces I cut out of Amy Tangerine’s Midnight Edition. I love the look of these two kits mixed together.

A closer look at embellishing & customizing Project Life Title Cards

If you follow my Project Life layouts, you know I try to keep my pages pretty simple and clean. If you follow my regular digital scrapbooking pages … you know I am in love with details … all the little embellishments that help draw the eye into the page and help tell the story.

Sometimes my Project Life pages, meet my digital scrapbooking pages and I get a sort of marriage of the two.

This layout, summarizing my daughters U11 soccer year is still a pretty simple and clean Project Life event page … but it does add in a few extra details to round out the story telling.

In the spotlight on Becky Higgins’ blog found here, I choose this layout to share with Becky’s blog readers. One reader asked about how I created the title card. I thought it best to put it in a post, so all the details could be shared.

I started with this amazing Soccer Theme Kit found here.

Here’s a look at the card I used as the base for my title card.

I added some adorable bits of embellishments from Dani Mogstad’s Playball Kit found here.

Form Dani’s preview, you can see the adorable soccer ball, the star rounds, and the already stapled & folded ribbon … so cute! (and the perfect colors too.)

So I added them onto my base journal card as shown below:

and then I just added some fun fonts to finish off the Title Card.

Because the soccer ball and star round from Dani’s kit has a slightly distressed look to them, I used a textured brush to erase & distress my font a bit for the title “Soccer Highlights”. I also turned the words into a sticker and added a drop shadow.

If you’ve been following my blog this year, you know my 2014 PL spreads are done in mostly muted colors, so this kit was perfect for me. In fact I used it for two weeks … I’m finally in March with my PL weekly spreads. Just about done with snow photos. Yeah!

Memory Keeping … Digital Project Life 2014 | Weeks 3 and 4

Hello. I am just getting back into a routine after a long 6 day break from school. We had a snow day, followed by a Friday, Monday US holiday and tuesday Sup Conference Day … just teachers go in, not students. And … it pretty much snowed … every. single. day. I know the true definition of “going stir crazy”.

But that is over and I need to move on …

Today I want to share some more Digital Project Life pages from Weeks 3 & 4 for 2014. I am still using my Collect App to organize and keep track of all my daily photos. I still use my PicTapGo App and apply my custom recipe to my photos … so they all have the same look throughout my pages (and my entire book for the year). And I am settling in to my 2014 style for my PL pages this year. Basic white, plain background, and very little fuss and extras. I want the photos and the journaling to tell the story of our everyday moments.

I’m also trying to keep this PL 2014 just the little everyday photos taken with my iPhone. So far I’m 100% on track with that. I’m saving my fancy DSLR photos for other pages.

Memory Keeping … nailing down my PL look for 2014

It’s February and let me tell you, I have been stressing over how I am going to do my 2014 Digital Project Life pages. Speaking of Digital Project Life, have you visited the blog lately? We recently welcomed the amazing Casey to our team for 2014 … this girl’s photography is so drool worthy.

The Digital Project Life 2014 Creative Team

Back to my Digi PL look for 2014. I knew I wanted simple, clean, lots of white, a little touch of color, and for all the photos to have the same photo treatment. I think this will work for me. Most of my photos are coming from my iPhone. I started using the Collect App to gather, date and make notes for all my Project Life photos. I love it! It even reminds me at the end of the day to make sure I took a photo. The little square photos with the white background and calendar style date are made to look like a Collect App photo that has been exported. I love how clean it looks on my pages, but it was too much for all my photos, so I am going to be using it sparingly as a design element.
